Juneau Parks & Recreation is now accepting registrations for an upcoming American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification Course, taking place January 6 to 11, 2026 at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. This course prepares participants to teach Red Cross swim and water safety curriculum and qualifies graduates to work as swimming instructors at Red Cross-affiliated aquatic facilities, including Juneau Pools.
Registration closes December 30, 2025, one week prior to the course start date to allow time for required online coursework. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the final day of the course and pass a required pre-course swim skills test. The course is free for individuals who submit an application to teach swim lessons for Juneau Pools by January 11, 2026. All other participants will be charged a $400 fee.
Course requirements include 7.5 hours of online coursework completed through the Red Cross Learning Center prior to the first day of class, as well as in-person classroom and in-water instruction.
All in-personsessions will be held at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center.
