On 13 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with Honorable Elbridge Colby, U.S. Under Secretary of War for Policy, on the occasion of his official visit to Thailand during 12-13 August 2026.
The Under Secretary of War expressed his appreciation on behalf of the U.S. Secretary of War for the warm welcome by the Thai side. He informed the Vice Minister that the objective of his visit was to underscore the intention of the U.S. Government to deepen the alliance and strategic partnership with Thailand as a longstanding treaty ally in the region. The Under Secretary of War also informed the Vice Minister that the United States stands ready to strengthen defense and security cooperation with Thailand for mutual interest while respecting national sovereignty, and for peace and stability in the region.
The Vice Minister welcomed the visit of the Under Secretary of War as part of the latter's tour in the region. He reaffirmed Thailand's readiness to work with the United States to deepen the Thai-U.S. alliance and enhance defense and security cooperation in order to make it relevant in the changing international landscape and achieve tangible outcomes. This includes more exchanges of high-level visits, the visit of the U.S. Secretary of War to Thailand in the near future, capacity building to address new threats, military modernization, defense industry collaboration, as well as cooperation in combating online scams, a security challenge for both Thailand and the United States.
Both sides also exchanged views on key regional developments, including the situation regarding Thailand-Cambodia and Myanmar.
