The first 100 days of the new administration have unleashed a wave of policies that target our most vulnerable communities: families torn apart, critical healthcare denied, and a climate of fear created through mass layoffs and aggressive federal actions. This administration's focus on retribution and power has directly attacked the core of NYLPI's community-led vision for justice:
  • Mass deportations and the freezing of refugee admissions, leaving families in crisis.
  • The decimation of environmental protections and the end of renewable energy and climate resiliency projects, jeopardizing our future.
  • The dismantling of disability rights and education and threats to Social Security, Medicaid and other government benefits, undermining essential support systems.
  • The impounding of federal grants, crippling vital community programs.
  • Targeted attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community, eroding hard-won rights.
  • Direct threats against frontline environmental justice organizations, intending to chill their equity work.
  • The weaponization of federal agencies to investigate and silence opposition, and attacks on legal representation and the judiciary.

NYLPI is rising to this challenge.

In the past 100 days, we've mobilized our legal and organizing expertise, partnering with community leaders, nonprofits, and law firms to protect and empower New Yorkers.

Together, we've taken concrete action:

  • Prepared: We've provided safety planning for immigrant clients, conducted "Know Your Rights" training for 350+ medical professionals, and equipped 15,000+ nonprofit and foundation leaders with crucial legal guides and resources.
  • Protected: We're representing dozens of immigrant clients in legal proceedings and launched our Nonprofit Resilience Network to defend against government overreach.
  • Advanced: We've filed a lawsuit to enforce New York's landmark climate law, exposed racial bias in forced mental health treatment in order to advocate for voluntary services, and driven advocacy efforts that sent 15,000 letters to elected officials to promote a vision of progress and opportunity at the state and local level.

Justice takes all of us. Your voice, courage, and support are essential as we fight to protect progress and ensure justice for every New Yorker.
