The City of Carrollton is pleased to announce the selection of Jonathan Scheu as its new Parks & Recreation Director.
Scheu, who has functioned as Interim Director since October 2025, joined Carrollton in 2010 in Finance within the Budget & Management Office before transitioning to lead the City's Library system as Library Services Director in 2017.
"His strong management qualities and extensive municipal experience ꟷ particularly within Carrollton ꟷ position him for a smooth transition and continued success in this role," Assistant City Manager Chrystal Davis said. "Scheu understands that public spaces serve as the heart of a community. His proven commitment to resident engagement and delivery of high-quality services makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the Parks & Recreation Department."
As Carrollton's Library Services Director, Scheu focused on strengthening community connections, expanding access to services, and aligning programs with resident needs. His leadership has consistently centered on collaboration, innovation, and long-range planning.
In his new role as Carrollton's Parks & Recreation Director, Scheu will act as executive officer for all aspects of the City's recreational services and park facilities, and partner with City stakeholders to ensure a strategic methodology is applied to the City's approach to open spaces and programming. As director, Scheu will oversee Carrollton athletics, the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum, both Crosby and Rosemeade Recreation Centers, the Elm Fork Nature Preserve, Indian Creek Golf Club, McInnish Sports Complex, Oak Creek Tennis Center, the Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex, the Senior Center, both W.J. Thomas and Oak Hills Splash Parks, 1,800 acres of parkland, miles of trails, and the activities, events, and programs related to these.
"I am honored to serve Carrollton in this new capacity," Scheu said. "Parks and recreation play a vital role in building community, promoting wellness, and enhancing quality of life. I look forward to working with our dedicated staff and residents to continue enriching the spaces and programs that bring people together."
Scheu began his career in public service 18 years ago with the City of Southlake, where he worked as an intern for both Parks & Recreation and Library Services. He holds a master's and a bachelor's degree in public administration from the University of Texas at Dallas and is also a Certified Public Manager.
With his municipal government experience and desire for community betterment, Scheu said he looks forward to returning to his roots in Parks & Recreation.
