LAMESA - Starting March 2, the US 87/SH 349 intersection will reopen to traffic. Drivers can expect SH 349 traffic to reopen to one-lane in each direction.
"SH 349 has been closed for several months and we want to caution drivers, especially US 87 drivers, to stay alert and expect incoming traffic from 349," said Seve Sisneros, P.E., Brownfield Area Engineer and project manager. "All traffic will be required to stop at the intersection."
US 87 will remain one-lane in each direction.
The improvements at the US 87/SH 349 intersection are part of a safety project that is widening US 87 to 5-lanes of traffic, two lanes in each direction and a left turn lane. The project will also upgrade traffic signals and drainage structures and is scheduled to be completed in late-summer 2026.
