WHAT: The Pennsylvania State Senate will hold a ceremonial celebration honoring the United States Semiquincentennial. This is a historical tradition of the Pennsylvania State Senate - similar meetings were held in Philadelphia to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1926, the 200th anniversary of the Declaration's signing in 1976, and the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in 1987.
The ceremonial meeting will be presided over by Lt. Gov. Austin Davis and Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward. Music will be provided by the U.S. Army Field Band Chamber Ensemble. Students from across the commonwealth will be present courtesy of a partnership with America250PA. Patrick Burns, chair of America250PA, will give an update on the organization's activities across the state.
