McMurry University's Walter F. and Virginia Johnson School of Business has announced the launch of two new, STEM-designated graduate programs designed to meet growing workforce demand in Texas and across the nation: AI in Business and Healthcare Administration. Both programs will launch in spring 2027, pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Together, the programs position McMurry as a regional leader in innovation-focused business education, equipping students to lead in two of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy.

Meeting the Demand for AI-Driven Business Leadership

The Master of Science in AI in Business integrates business strategy, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

According to industry research, 91% of companies are investing in artificial intelligence to improve operations, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 17% growth in AI-related business and financial roles from 2023 to 2033.

"Organizations today need leaders who understand both business fundamentals and AI technologies," said Dr. Martha Cruz Zuniga, dean of the Johnson School of Business. "This program prepares graduates not just to use AI tools, but to shape strategic decisions and drive innovation."

The STEM designation expands opportunities for veterans and international students and reflects the program's strong technical foundation.

Graduates will be prepared for careers as AI business consultants, data analysts, and technology strategy leaders across industries ranging from healthcare and finance to marketing and logistics.

Advancing Healthcare Leadership in Texas

The Master of Science in Healthcare Administration responds to extraordinary growth in healthcare management roles. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 32% growth in medical and health services manager positions, substantially faster than average. In Texas alone, approximately 18,000 new healthcare administration positions are projected annually.

With nearly 600 licensed hospitals across Texas and a rapidly expanding healthcare infrastructure, the need for skilled administrators has never been greater.

"Our healthcare system is becoming more complex, data-driven, and policy-focused," said Cruz Zuniga. "This degree prepares leaders who understand finance, operations, law, ethics, and emerging technologies like AI in healthcare."

Like the AI in Business degree, the Healthcare Administration degree is STEM-designated, broadening access and reinforcing its analytical and technological rigor.

Positioning McMurry for the Future

Both programs were developed with a focus on workforce alignment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and long-term sustainability. Program projections indicate strong enrollment potential and financial viability, even under conservative growth scenarios.

"These launches reflect McMurry University's commitment to preparing students for leadership in industries that are transforming our economy," said McMurry University President Lynne Murray. "We are investing in programs that serve both our students and the broader Texas workforce."

Both programs offer flexible completion pathways, including:

  • A one-year accelerated option
  • A 1.5-year option
  • A 4+1 pathway allowing McMurry undergraduates to begin graduate coursework early
