UAA's Carpenter, Bjornstad skate to All-American honors

Soldier Hollow, Utah - Corbin Carpenter and Erling Bjornstad each earned All-American honors to lead Alaska Anchorage to an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Skiing National Championships Saturday.

Carpenter finished sixth (46:22.7), and Bjornstad was 10th (46:43.7).

In the women's race, Marlie Molinaro was 15th (53:23.1) and Marit Flora was 16th (53:25.8). Dashe McCabe finished 32nd (56:09.7).

"So exciting to watch our Nordic group today," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "They absolutely crushed it. Tremendous job by everyone this week. All seven of our national championship qualifiers skied their hearts out to contribute points and combined for seven All-American finishes. We really showed our strength even with a smaller group. Proud to be in the Elite Eight nationally and the top Division II team in the country. It's an honor to work with these athletes and coaches. We're going to continue to be a dangerous team to watch moving forward."

The Seawolves finished with seven All-American honors, Ella Bromee (slalom, giant slalom), Erling Bjornstad (classic, freestyle), Corbin Carpenter (classic, freestyle) and Marit Flora (classic).

UAA finished eighth of 22 teams with 235 points.

Mons Melbye of Utah won the men's race (46:14.6), and Rosie Fordham of UAF won the women's race (51:54.6).
