AARO Received 319 UAP Reports During the Reporting Period and Was Able to Explain 114, Leaving 205 Unresolved

Today, in response to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office's (AARO) release of its FY2025 annual report on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement:

"This report represents another crucial step forward in our understanding of UAPs and toward the transparency that the American people deserve. Thanks to AARO's efforts, which set new tradecraft standards of excellence in the intelligence community, hundreds more UAP cases have been resolved in the past year, and witnesses to UAP events can rest assured that their reports are being taken seriously.

"Even as work continues, AARO has proven itself to be the most comprehensive government effort on UAPs to date, and I am encouraged by the progress that it has made to this point. I will continue to use my committee positions to push for relevant agencies' cooperation with AARO, and I will keep fighting to elevate UAPs as a national security concern and reduce the stigma around reporting."

During the latest reporting period (June 2, 2024 to May 30, 2025), AARO received 319 reports of UAP-related events and was able to explain 114 of them, leaving 205 unresolved. They also resolved 256 earlier cases. A large portion of the resolved cases were due to a new capability that enabled analysts to resolve 238 cases as satellite flaring - when the sun reflects off of satellites in low Earth orbit and creates a bright light. There was one maritime UAP case involving a report from the Navy off the coast of Virginia, and one resolved report involved a manned jet pack.

Gillibrand has long been a leader on UAP resolution and disclosure. She created AARO in the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to focus the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community on resolving UAP sightings, improve data sharing between DoD and the Intelligence Community on UAP sightings, address national security concerns, and report health effects people may experience in relation to UAP events. In the FY2024 NDAA, she secured language to require that the government declassify UAP records, with limited exceptions for national security purposes.
