Center for Cross-Cultural Research Speaker Series presents discussion of betrayal trauma

May 4, 2026

WWU's Center for Cross-Cultural Research Speaker Series includes clinical psychologist Jennifer Gómez, an associate professor at the Boston University school of Social Work, who will present her research May 13 on institutional trauma and systems change.

In "How Do We Change the World? Moving from Cultural Betrayal to Institutional Courage & Dreamstorming," Gómez will discuss how inequality makes within-group violence in marginalized populations-known as cultural betrayal trauma-uniquely harmful, negatively impacting mental health. She will also discuss concrete strategies for creating organizations of justice that promote trauma prevention and healing.

The talk will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 in AW 204 or on Zoom and is co-hosted by Center for Cross-Cultural Research, Psychology Department, and Foundation for WWU & Alumni. Learn more and register to attend here.
