"Lousy Deal that Leaves Hardworking Americans Behind": Rep. Huffman Votes No on Partisan Funding Package

November 12, 2025

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) released the following statement after voting against the partisan funding package that passed the U.S. House of Representatives:

"Republicans promised the American people they'd lower costs and improve people's lives. But since taking control of the government, they've cut thousands of jobs, made health care costs skyrocket, dismantled programs people depend on, and caused the longest shutdown in U.S. history - all to enrich their billionaire donors and line their own pockets.

"From the beginning, House Democrats and I were clear: we would support a funding bill that both reopens the government and saves health care. Instead of working with us to solve the health care crisis they created, Republicans fled Washington for a record-breaking 7-week vacation and are now forcing through a lousy deal that leaves hardworking Americans behind.

"This will cost lives. People in my district are going to see premiums double and even triple. As if that wasn't horrible enough, Senate Republicans slipped in a provision that allows MAGA Senators to sue the Department of Justice and get million-dollar payouts. So, while families, seniors, and veterans drown in medical bills, these greedy politicians are getting major paydays on the taxpayers' dime. It's unconscionable, disgusting, and corrupt.

"I'm not giving up on this fight. This chance for Republicans to grow a spine and do what's best for the public - not their own pocketbooks - is over, but my House Democratic colleagues and I will keep going down every avenue there is to save affordable care for Americans."
