Hannah Phillips, associate director of housing and residence life at Washington and Lee University, was recently appointed as a small school representative for the Virginia Association of College and University Housing Officers (VACUHO).

Phillips' one-year appointment by the VACUHO president will consist of establishing strong working relationships with member institutions that have under 2,999 beds for on-campus students. Her role allows her to advocate for the unique needs and perspectives of small colleges and universities during VACUHO meetings, discussions and conferences. In her role, Phillips regularly attends Governing Council meetings and communicates with represented schools to ensure their institutional needs are being supported.

This appointment marks Phillips' second term as the Small School Representative, having previously served in 2019. She also formerly served as the VACUHO Governing Council Webmaster and RA Conference Chair.

Phillips has been a member of the W&L staff since 2021. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in European history and a Master of Education in educational leadership from the University of Lynchburg and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and organizational innovation from Marymount University. Before joining the Division of Student Affairs at W&L, Phillips served as the assistant director of residence life and housing at Roanoke College.

VACUHO is the state-level professional association affiliated with the larger Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). Their mission is dedicated to the education and professional development of housing and residence life staff at institutions of higher education in Virginia. VACUHO's vision is to be a model service to Virginia housing professionals through developing innovative environments and opportunities for mentoring, networking, intentional dialogue and shared best practices.
