Ruben Fregosojuarez faces life in prison if convicted as charged
LOS ANGELES - A 40-year-old Los Angeles man is facing murder and child abuse charges after allegedly killing his 36-year-old girlfriend, abducting their 5-year-old child and fleeing to Mexico.
"The killing of a mother and the abduction of a young child is the kind of violence that shocks the entire community," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. "I cannot imagine the grief and fear that the innocent child faced as she was allegedly snatched after her mother was killed. The defendant will face his day in court, and our Family Violence Division will pursue every available resource and work with federal and Mexican law enforcement authorities to seek justice for the woman whose life was stolen and for the child caught in this tragedy."
Ruben Fregosojuarez (dob 1/21/86) is charged in case 26CJCF03225 with one count of murder and one misdemeanor count of child abuse under circumstance or conditions other than great bodily injury or death.
On or about May 25, 2026, Fregosojuarez allegedly murdered his girlfriend. He then fled to Mexico with their child.
If convicted as charged, Fregosojuarez faces 25 years to life in state prison.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kelsey McKeever-Unger of the Family Violence Division and remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division.
The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
