Tomsk Polytechnic University will host events dedicated to the celebration of Victory Day. Students and staff are invited to attend a solemn rally and flower laying ceremony on May 9.
Participants wishing to join the celebration ceremony are to gather on Saturday, May 9, at 08:30 a.m. at the entrance to the TPU Main Building (Lenin Ave., 30). The solemn ceremony dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, as well as the military and labor feat of the TPU staff - participants of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers will begin at 08:45 a.m.
Then, delegations from university departments and everyone wishing will lay flowers at the steles of the Memorial to the Military and Labor Glory of the TPU staff and students during the Great Patriotic War at the Building of the Chemical Department of TPU.
The solemn ceremony will end with a minute's silence - the participants will honor the memory of the TPU soldiers who fell in the battles for their Homeland, as well as the participants of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers, whose hearts stopped beating in peacetime already.
In addition, from 08:00 a.m., volunteers will distribute St. George's ribbons to everyone at the TPU Main Building and the Physics Department Building.
Students of the TPU Military Training Center will also take part in the citywide Victory Day events - the solemn rally and parade. The rally is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Novo-Sobornaya Square, after it 30 parade squads will march along Lenin ave. towards the Lagerny Garden.
Tomsk Polytechnic University contributed to the Victory over Nazi Germany. In 1941, Tomsk Industrial Institute (now TPU) sent 631 mobilized soldiers to the front. They were students, teachers, researchers, workers and employees of the institute. 60 volunteers were among them. During the war years, over 700 TPU students and employees were drafted to the Soviet Army, 205 of them did not return from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.Reference
