Researchers at the University of Colorado Denver examined bridge beams reinforced with ultra-high performance concrete and carbon fiber reinforced polymer to determine how they perform under a combination of stresses such as cyclical structural loading and high temperatures. The research clarifies the implications of multi-hazard loading for the behavior of reinforced concrete members retrofitted with advanced materials and will help guide future research and specifications for reinforcing damaged or seismically deficient bridges.
