Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Condemns SAVE Act as Threat to Voting Rights

Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released the following statement against the SAVE Act:

"Once again, Republicans are prioritizing their own political survival over the people they represent and the democracy they're sworn to protect. I voted against the SAVE Act because it strikes at free and fair elections.

"The SAVE Act is not about election integrity. Let's be clear: non-citizen voting is alreadyillegal in federal elections. Republicans know that. At a time when the cost of living is already too high, Republicans are raising the cost of voting-forcing millions to pay $130 for documents and navigate more red tape. When voting becomes more expensive in money and time, that's not security-it's suppression.

"The SAVE Act would impact millions of eligible votes. It would bury women and rural voters under unnecessary paperwork, disenfranchise millions whose legal names don't match their birth certificates, and create new barriers for people who already struggle to access the ballot box. It also dangerously funnels voter data to Kristi Noem's DHS with no guardrails or accountability.

"This is a solution in search of a problem. This is voter suppression, plain and simple. I will continue fighting in Congress and in our communities to protect the right to vote-because in a democracy, politicians don't get to pick their voters."
