Fried Frank Recognizes Shira Sandler with 2026 Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award

Press releases | October 29, 2026

Fried Frank announced today that special counsel Shira Sandler is the recipient of the 2026 Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award. Presented annually at our Pro Bono Month celebration, this award honors an individual whose dedication to pro bono and public service reflects that of Robert E. Juceam, retired litigation partner and current of counsel at the firm.

Shira has been a dedicated pro bono advocate since joining the firm six years ago, balancing a substantial time commitment alongside her very busy billable practice. Her work has included representing trafficking victims and detained clients, writing amicus briefs on reproductive and voting rights, offering research and advice for organizations within the Jewish community and taking on a leadership role on our active, fast-paced habeas docket. In addition to her active pro bono practice, Shira serves as co-chair of the Family Legal Care junior board, contributing her leadership and advocacy skills to its mission of providing legal services to families in need.

"Receiving the Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award is an incredible honor, especially because of how many talented lawyers at Fried Frank pour their time and energy into pro bono work every day," said awardee Shira Sandler.

"Shira is an indispensable colleague. As someone who was mentored by Bob Juceam and still looks to him for guidance and inspiration, I can say that Shira exemplifies Bob's hardworking, creative spirit. Bob inspires everyone to do their best work, and Shira has that same effect on all of the associates who work with us, on real estate litigation and on pro bono cases" Janice Mac Avoy, said real estate litigation partner.

The Robert E. Juceam Pro Bono Award was established in 2024 in recognition of Bob's exemplary, lifelong commitment to pro bono and public service. He dedicated much of his career to fighting for vulnerable communities and for systematic reform in multiple substantive areas to ensure fairness for those involved in the legal process.
