Chinese Consul General in Belfast Li Nan Attends the Chinese New Year Celebration at South West College in Northern Ireland

On February 19, Consul General Li Nan attended and addressed the Chinese New Year celebration at South West College, Northern Ireland. Cllr. Barry McElduff, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Janis Scallon, Director of Further Education, Department of the Economy, Celine McCartan, Principal & Chief Executive of South West College and over 60 teachers and students from partner schools of South West College were present.

Consul General Li extended New Year greetings to all the guests, explained the symbolic meaning of the Year of the Horse, congratulated the students on their progress in learning Mandarin, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all sectors for their support of Mandarin teaching. He extended his best regards to more than 10 Confucius Institute teachers at the Confucius Hub of South West College, thanking them for their contributions to the promotion of Mandarin and Chinese culture. He also presented prize to the first-prize winner of the Year of the Horse Poster Competition from Omagh County Primary School.

The atmosphere at the event was festive and warm. Confucius Institute teachers performed wonderful programs including Peking Opera, face-changing, and choral singing. Hospitality students from South West College prepared delicious Chinese food for all the guests.
