STATEMENT: Sen. Schiff Announces Intention to Vote “No” on Joint Resolutions of Disapproval

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement on the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval being considered by the United States Senate:

"The resolutions that will be considered by the Senate would weaken Israel's security, not only in terms of its ability to prevent attacks from Gaza - but from Iran, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and others. The United States must continue to stand by Israel and foster negotiations on a ceasefire and a path to a lasting peace. We must also provide strong humanitarian support to the Palestinian people to ease their tremendous suffering and help the people of Gaza rebuild.

"Our priority must be the return of all October 7 hostages to Israel. This will only happen when terrorist groups - most notably Hamas - are no longer able to pose a threat to Israel.

"At a time when an increasing number of Palestinians are taking to the streets of Gaza to protest against Hamas, these resolutions send the wrong message, complicate negotiations, undermine Israel's security and embolden Iran.

"The resolutions do not get us closer to peace. I'm voting 'no.'"
