Sen. Banks Helps Secure $6.74 Million Investment in Indiana Workforce Training

Funding will support employer-led training for high-paying jobs in critical industries

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) applauded the U.S. Department of Labor's grant of $6.74 million to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, which will expand employer-led skills training in critical industries.

Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.): "Hoosiers build the products America depends on. President Trump is bringing industry back to the United States, and I am proud to have fought for this investment that will help Indiana workers gain the skills they need to fill good-paying jobs in manufacturing and other critical sectors. Indiana is ready to lead America's industrial comeback."

The funding is part of $43 million awarded through the second round of the Department of Labor's Industry-Driven Skills Training Fund. The program provides outcome-based reimbursements to employers that train workers for rapidly changing skills requirements and local workforce needs.

The grants will support workforce development in high-growth and strategically important industries, including advanced manufacturing, aerospace, construction, cybersecurity, domestic mineral production, information technology, nuclear energy, quantum computing, shipbuilding, and the maritime supply chain.

Background:

  1. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development will receive $6.74 million, one of the largest awards announced.
  2. Seven States received funding through the second round.
  3. More than $10 million of the newly awarded funding will support occupations in the domestic shipbuilding industry and maritime supply chain.
  4. Across both rounds, the Trump administration has invested more than $129 million in 21 states, including more than 30 million for shipbuilding workforce development.
  5. The grant allows State Workforce Agencies to partner with employers and support training tailored to the local workforce needs.
