WASHINGTON - Business Software Alliance (BSA) CEO Victoria Espinel issued the following statement responding to a new White House Executive Order on frontier AI security models:
"The Business Software Alliance (BSA) welcomes President Trump's executive order on AI and cybersecurity. As increasingly capable frontier AI security models create new urgency for policymakers and businesses, BSA supports efforts to ensure cyber defenders and critical infrastructure providers gain first access to frontier AI security models to strengthen cyber defenses and resilience ahead of bad actors.
The executive order appropriately constructs a voluntary and phased approach to introducing and evaluating frontier AI security models that would prioritize strengthening critical infrastructure and proactively remediating vulnerabilities. It additionally takes the welcome step of initiating a structured and transparent process by which industry, government, and security experts can collaborate on future breakthroughs in AI security. It also supports the US government is taking advantage of breakthroughs in AI to advance the nation's cybersecurity.
Because cyber threats do not respect national borders, BSA supports efforts to work with like-minded governments and stakeholders to align similar voluntary, public-private partnerships with governments around the world to avoid fragmented approaches that could undermine security, resilience, and trust."
BSA outlined priorities for a voluntary partnership that takes a structured, transparent, and globally aligned approach to frontier AI model security in a blog post published yesterday.
