Commissioner Vicki Schmidt releases 2027 Overview of the Kansas Health Insurance Market
Topeka, Kan. - Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, today, released the annual "Overview of the Health Insurance Market in Kansas." This report details the 2027 Kansas Health Insurance Market (Marketplace). The report can be found here.
The report highlights the five companies offering coverage on the ACA Marketplace and the 58 individual policies available in Kansas in 2027. It also offers an overview of the types of individual and small group policies as well as the benefit levels available per plan.
"Open enrollment is the time to evaluate your coverage and chose a plan that is best for you and your family's healthcare needs," Commissioner Vicki Schmidt said. "It is important for Kansans to make informed decisions when deciding which coverage is best for them and their families."
The open enrollment period, scheduled November 1 until January 15, is an opportunity for Kansans to make decisions about their health insurance coverage. They can stay on their current policy, if available, or enroll in a different policy from the same company or a different company. To start health insurance coverage effective January 1, Kansans must enroll by December 15. Health insurance purchased on the Marketplace between December 16 and January 15 will not begin coverage until February 1.
Kansans should check to make sure their selected providers are in-network with the insurer before selecting a plan. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) holds network adequacy jurisdiction for Individual ACA Marketplace plans, as the Kansas Department of Insurance (KDOI) does not have the statutory authority to review, approve or enforce network adequacy standards for individual health plans sold on the Marketplace. The KDOI is not a party to contract negotiations between payers and providers.
Kansans should also be aware of potential improper marketing when shopping for and purchasing plans. There are numerous websites with similar names, so verify that you are using the healthcare.gov website. Using the correct website ensures you are buying a plan that complies with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
