A Safe and Peaceful Spring Festival in the Year of the Horse — Nuclear Safety Oversight Never Slows Down (Feb 13, 2026)

As the year comes to an end and the Year of the Horse approaches, families across the country are preparing to celebrate the Lunar New Year. During this festive season, Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) upholds the spirit of "continuous oversight, safety around the clock," and continues to closely monitor the overall status of nuclear power plants in Taiwan in order to reassure the public.

At present, all nuclear power plant operating licenses in Taiwan have expired, and the plants have ceased operation in accordance with the law. NSC continues to conduct safety reviews and on-site inspections of nuclear power plant decommissioning activities, as well as measures to ensure the safe management of spent nuclear fuel, and oversees Taipower's implementation of safety management activities in strict accordance with approved procedures to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and quality requirements.

Pursuant to the amended Article 6 of the Nuclear Reactor Facilities Regulation Act promulgated by the President, and drawing on international experience while taking into account domestic regulatory practice, NSC has completed revisions to relevant subordinate regulations and has formulated regulatory requirements, thereby establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework and safety technical requirements for applications to renew nuclear power plant operating licenses.

Related information is available on NSC's official website (https://www.nusc.gov.tw).

Nuclear safety oversight has no holidays. Throughout the Lunar New Year period, NSC keeps its professional commitment to monitor the safety of NPPs and ensure public safety so that the public can celebrate the Lunar New Year Holidays with peace of mind.

Happy Lunar New Year!
