Publix celebrates 10th store opening in Kentucky

Oct. 7, 2026 - We're in Florence, y'all! Today, we opened our 10th store in Kentucky. Located in Florence, the store marks another milestone in our 96 years in business. We entered Kentucky in January 2024 with our first store in Louisville. In less than three years, we've opened 10 stores and have announced plans for 16 additional locations.

Feeding our neighbors

We are dedicated to helping feed individuals and families facing food insecurity. Our commitment to Kentucky communities began before we opened our first store in the commonwealth. Since 2021, Publix has donated more than 5 million pounds of produce to Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville to support Kentuckians in need.

Additionally, we have donated more than 3 million pounds of food to Feeding America® partner food banks and other nonprofit organizations in the commonwealth through our Good Together food donation program. The food donated through this program is no longer salable but remains safe for consumption.

Our biannual register campaign also encourages customers and associates to support neighbors experiencing hunger by contributing at the register. Funds raised through the campaign help supply local food banks with their most-needed items. During these designated times, Publix also donates an additional $5 million in fresh produce to Feeding America partner food banks in our operating area.

Investing in our communities

Our commitment to supporting communities also includes hands-on service. Since 2024, associates have contributed more than 1,000 volunteer hours in Kentucky through Publix Serves. This community service program provides opportunities for our associates to volunteer to support environmental and hunger-relief projects across our eight state operating area. Launched in 2015 as a single day of service, the program has grown into two weeklong events held each spring and fall.
