Wholesale Vegetable Price Spikes Might Not Show Up In Your Grocery Bill — Yet

Amelia Finaret, associate professor of global health and economics, was recently featured on Marketplace (an NPR show) alongside fellow experts from Cornell and Purdue Universities. The article focuses on the factors that impact vegetable price volatility, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasted an overall increase in the producer price index.

Finaret notes that producer prices are more unstable than consumer prices, citing factors like tariffs, labor, and weather affecting the overall cost. She also mentions that the price of diesel, due to the war in Iran, will be an ongoing cost consideration, as farmers require tractors or other equipment to collect acres of vegetables.
