U.S. News & World Report names Alvernia a top-ranked national university for third consecutive year

Alvernia recognized for social mobility and nursing program

For the third consecutive year, Alvernia University earns a coveted 2024 Best National University designation by U.S. News & World Report. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Alvernia is featured among colleges and universities in the top tier of its designation. Within the rankings, the institution received acclaim for social mobility and its bachelor of science in nursing program.

"Our commitment to innovation and longstanding mission of serving the underserved is recognized by our inclusion among the best national universities," said Alvernia President Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D. "We're proud to be the only nationally-ranked professional doctoral university in our area and we'll remain focused on providing practical, experiential-learning based education and surrounding our students with a culture of care as we continue our growth as a regional comprehensive university."

From 2019 to 2021, Alvernia was ranked among the top 100 Best Regional Universities in the North. Its growth in research and academic programming elevated it to the National University category. According to U.S. News & World Report, the National Universities offer a range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.

Alvernia also received recognition for its efforts in social mobility, a category that measures the success of Pell Grant recipients. For the third year, its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program ranked among the top 600 nationwide.

Alvernia University also recently earned national endorsements as a Colleges of Distinction (COD) for the fifth consecutive year and was ranked among Money Magazine's 2024 Best Colleges rankings.
