Wednesday morning Memphis Light, Gas and Water and power supplier Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) ended their request for energy conservation.
Temperatures did not get above 25° on Tuesday. To prevent any rolling blackouts, and ensure the electric system could meet demand, customers across the Tennessee Valley were asked to voluntarily curtail energy use during peak demand hours. We put the call out for voluntary conservation and our customers responded," Doug McGowen, MLGW President and CEO told the utility's Board of Commissioners Wednesday. "Every megawatt matters." President McGowen added "we are past the peak now and are in good shape for the days ahead."
· TVA delivered its highest ever power demand Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 8 a.m. CST.
· Preliminary data shows delivery of 35,319 megawatts.
· The previous peak of 34,577 was set on Wednesday, January. 17, 2024, at 8 a.m. during Winter Storm Heather.
All customers can resume normal operations without curtailing use.
