The Latino Cultural Center hosts Texas Latino Comic Con and the 15th anniversary exhibition of “El Peso Hero: Guardian of the Borderlands”

Dallas - The Latino Cultural Center in conjunction with the return of tenth-annual Texas Latino Comic Con will host a special exhibition, "El Peso Hero: Guardian of the Borderlands". This year's celebration of creators and artists will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026 and will be free and open to the public.

Launched in 2011, "El Peso Hero" is an independent, creator-owned series inspired by Dallas-based educator and artist Héctor Rodríguez III about his upbringing in Eagle Pass, Texas. The bilingual hero who speaks only Spanish has become a symbol of resilience, identity, and justice for Latino communities on both sides of the border. Featured in the Eisner Award-nominated anthology "Latinx Comics Studies: Critical and Creative Crossings" (Rutgers University Press).

"This exhibition is more than a celebration of 15 years - it's a tribute to the border communities that inspired the character and a statement that our stories deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated," said Rodríguez. "I'm honored to bring 'El Peso Hero' home to Dallas for this milestone."

The "Guardian of the Borderlands" exhibition transforms the acclaimed comic series into a vibrant, multisensory gallery experience. Attendees will explore original artwork, rare covers and variant pages, character development timelines, film concept art from the in-development movie, and interactive installations that highlight how comics serve as a vital vehicle for Latino empowerment and cultural storytelling.
