Democratic Committees, Leaders Schumer and Jeffries on Today's Court Order Blocking Key Parts of Trump's Executive Order to Undermine Elections
Today, a U.S. District Court judge blocked key parts of Trump's illegal executive order that attempts to suppress voters, upend voter registration systems and hand over sensitive information to DOGE, stop states from counting eligible mail ballots, and withhold federal election funding from dozens of states in the process.
Democratic Committees and Leaders Schumer and Jeffries sued Trump, DOGE, and other departments within the Trump administration to block the key parts of this order.
DNC Chair Ken Martin, DGA Chair Laura Kelly, DSCC Chair Kirsten Gillibrand, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:
"Today's court victory represents a huge step in the fight to protect our democracy. Without this decision, Americans across the country - including married women who changed their last name and low-income individuals - could have been unable to register to vote. However, Democrats fought back using every tool at our disposal - including taking Trump to court - to stop this illegal overreach that would have disenfranchised voters. Our work is not over - we will continue fighting to block DOGE from accessing sensitive voter information and ensure states can freely run their own elections. Democrats will never waver in defending the right to vote."
