TxDOT celebrates completion of Oak Hill Parkway project

AUSTIN - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) was joined by local and state leaders to celebrate the completion of the Oak Hill Parkway project, marking a major milestone for mobility, safety, and connectivity in Central Texas.

"Today marks an important milestone for the Austin region and for the millions of Texans who depend on a reliable transportation system," said Texas Transportation Commissioner Robert 'Robie' Vaughn. "As Texas continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, investments like Oak Hill Parkway help ensure our transportation network can keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently."

The Oak Hill Parkway project reconstructed the US 290/SH 71 interchange, constructed flyovers between the major highways, added nonstop mainlanes through the US 290 corridor, and enhanced bicycle and pedestrian accommodations to improve mobility for all users. The $679 million Texas Clear Lanes project reflects community values and transportation needs.

"Oak Hill Parkway is a shining example of what can be achieved when we combine vision, partnership, and sustained investment," said Commissioner Steve Alvis. "This project enhances safety, and addresses one of the region's most congested corridors, demonstrating TxDOT's commitment to strengthening our economy, improving quality of life, and connecting Texans to opportunity."

"This project was designed with community values in mind," said TxDOT Austin District Engineer Tucker Ferguson. "The neighbors committed to help us understand community priorities which informed our planning decisions."

TxDOT's Oak Hill Parkway project received the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) 2026 Environmental Excellence Award for Public Involvement and Education for its commitment to early, continuous, and meaningful community engagement, demonstrating that community input truly improves project outcomes.

The contractor for the project was Colorado River Constructors (CRC).
