CITY OF INDIO APPOINTS MIGUEL PEÑA AS DIRECTOR OF WATER UTILITY & MAINTENANCE

INDIO, CA (March 19, 2026) - The City of Indio is proud to announce the appointment of Miguel Peña as its new Director of Water Utility & Maintenance. A dedicated public servant with 26 years of experience serving the Indio community, Peña brings a deep understanding of water services, maintenance operations, and capital project delivery to this key leadership role.

Following a highly competitive recruitment process, Peña was selected from a strong pool of candidates, reflecting his proven track record and commitment to operational excellence. Peña holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from the University of La Verne and has earned the California Water Distribution Grade 5 certification, the highest level in the state. He currently serves as Chief Operator for Indio Water and holds additional certifications in Public Works Management, Inspection, and Utility Supervision.

This newly established leadership position was created to strengthen coordination and efficiency across several critical service areas, including Indio Water operations, fleet, facilities, streets, parks and landscaping. By aligning these functions under one department, the City aims to enhance service delivery, streamline operations, and better support Indio's momentous growth. Importantly, his appointment also marks a significant step forward in advancing the City's five-year strategic plan.
