There are just days left in the application period for the AFBF Ag Innovation Challenge. Chad Smith has key insights for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Smith: The American Farm Bureau Federation, in partnership with Farm Credit, is looking for the next big idea in agricultural innovation. Tara Westington, industry relations specialist with AFBF, says the
Ag Innovation Challenge presents a unique opportunity for startups looking to make a difference in agriculture.
Westington: The Ag Innovation Challenge is a national business competition that showcases startup companies who are developing innovative solutions to the challenges facing America's farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. We're providing the funding, mentorship, and visibility needed to scale new ideas.
Smith: Westington said there are a few key characteristics that contest judges look for.
Westington: We're looking for the change-makers, the startups, the entrepreneurs, the problem-solvers that are addressing real needs in agriculture, from things like sustainability, labor, technology to operational efficiency tools. The judges of this program are seeking innovators who are moving the industry forward.
Smith: Several contest winners have gone on to do
big things in business.
Westington: We've been fortunate to support many companies over the program's last 13 years. Their participation in the challenge has led to their early growth through the program's initial funding and network exposure, so we're very excited to continue supporting our winners beyond the challenge.
Smith: Applications are being accepted now through June 5. Learn more and apply at
