WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted in favor of H. Res. 1156, a resolution reaffirming House Republican support for the Working Families Tax Cuts and the relief they are delivering to workers, families, and seniors across the country ahead of Tax Day this Wednesday.
"We passed the Working Families Tax Cuts because working Americans deserved a tax code that actually works for them, and we are not going to apologize for it," said Congressman Harrigan. "No tax on tips, no tax on overtime, an expanded child tax credit, bigger refunds, bigger paychecks. Every single Democrat voted against all of it. This resolution makes clear whose side Republicans are on, and it is not Washington's."
The Working Families Tax Cuts, which Congressman Harrigan voted to pass, delivered the most significant tax relief for working Americans in a generation. Families of four making under $73,000 will generally pay zero federal income tax, Americans in the bottom 40% of earners will see a 15% tax cut, and seniors receive a new deduction of up to $6,000 per year. Nearly 45% of tax returns filed this season have already claimed at least one of the law's new provisions, with an estimated $222 billion in refunds already delivered, and an average tax cut of $3,750 anticipated for the 2026 tax year.
With Tax Day arriving this Wednesday, Congressman Harrigan is reminding North Carolinians that House Republicans delivered this relief over the unanimous opposition of every Democrat in Congress, and that he will keep fighting to protect it.
