Today, the Anchorage Assembly unanimously approved (12-0) contracts for management of three important community recreational facilities:
"Anchorage is a hockey town, and these facilities are critical pieces of our community infrastructure," said Assembly Member Sydney Scout.
"I am glad to see forward movement to ensure these facilities are managed by good faith operators, used to their maximum potential, and that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. It's no secret that facilities like these do not last forever, and as a representative for North Anchorage I am particularly interested in continuing conversations about the lifespan of the Sullivan arena. Together, we can and will ensure that our community continues to have access to good ice while maximizing every opportunity to build the Anchorage of the future."
About the operators:
"I'm pleased we had the opportunity to work through these agreements in a transparent, public process," said Assembly Vice Chair Daniel Volland. "We want to balance good financial stewardship of these facilities with continued recreational opportunity. These contracts allow for both."
