Access Fremont: Free Public Wi-Fi Network Launched

Post Date:10/31/2025 4:03 PM
On Friday, October 24, we celebrated the launch of the City's new free public Wi-Fi network, a major step toward closing the digital divide and expanding high-speed internet access citywide. With connection speeds up to 1 gigabit, AccessFremont strengthens digital equity and community connectivity for all. When fully deployed, the network will include 125 access points across six business districts: Centerville, Irvington, Mission San Jose (near Ohlone College), Niles, Warm Springs, and Downtown.

This initiative supports students, families, job seekers, and residents who depend on reliable internet to learn, work, and thrive. It also marks a key milestone in Fremont's Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plan, adopted in July 2022, which outlines broadband and Wi-Fi projects to enhance connectivity across the city. Just like connecting to Wi-Fi at your favorite café, residents, businesses, and visitors will enjoy a simple, seamless connection wherever AccessFremont is available.

But AccessFremont is about more than connectivity, it's about creating a vibrant, welcoming Fremont. Free public Wi-Fi makes our districts more inclusive and engaging, inviting people to stay longer, work remotely, connect with neighbors, and explore local shops and restaurants.

We extend our sincere thanks to State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab and Congressman Ro Khanna for their partnership and support in securing $3 million in combined state and federal funding that helped make this vision a reality.

AccessFremont represents more than just Wi-Fi, it's a commitment to a connected, inclusive future where everyone in Fremont has the tools to succeed.
