Defence Secretary Holds Discussions with US Defense Security Cooperation University Team

A meeting between a delegation from the US Defense Security Cooperation University's Institute for Security Governance (ISG) and the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), was held today (19 May) at the Ministry of Defence.

The discussion centred on ongoing and future capacity-building initiatives and training programs designed for the defence sector, highlighting the strategic implementation of the 'Training of Trainers' concept.

During the session, the Defence Secretary underscored the growing importance of structured capacity building, emphasizing the need for robust military training alongside specialized defence civilian education. Both parties agreed on the upcoming requirements for comprehensive capability analysis and capacity-based assessments to streamline future engagements.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Secretary for Defence, Senior officials from MOD, Senior Tri-Forces officers, and representatives from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and National Defence College (NDC), Sri Lanka.
