UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany convened a virtual town hall meeting with UNESCO teams in the Field, bringing together more than 50 offices worldwide. The exchange provided an important opportunity to connect headquarters with colleagues on the ground and reinforce a shared sense of direction and purpose. This meeting in an extended format, involving all colleagues, is the first of a series meant to strengthen coordination at the highest level.
During the meeting, the Director-General shared his vision for the UNESCO80 reform, outlining key priorities to strengthen the Organization's effectiveness, coherence and global impact. This was followed by an open and constructive exchange with Directors and Heads of Offices, who shared their perspectives and experiences in implementing UNESCO's mandate in diverse contexts, with a special focus on crisis response.
Khaled El-Enany reaffirmed his ambition to build a stronger, more unified UNESCO, fully aligned with the Organization's core mandate. He emphasized the importance of intersectorality, encouraging greater collaboration across sectors to create synergies, avoid silos, and deliver as One UNESCO on the ground for people and communities. This integrated approach is essential to ensure that UNESCO's action is more visible, coordinated and impactful at country level.
