SAN FRANCISCO - May 28, 2026 - The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced a series of in-terminal activations to welcome FIFA World Cup fans to the San Francisco Bay Area. Starting the week of June 1st, travelers will be greeted with welcome banners and interactive e-posters that allow travelers to block a shot on goal from a robot named "Striker". That week SFO will also deploy holographic screens featuring welcome messages from two-time FIFA Women's World Cup champion Brandi Chastain and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie.
Starting June 9th, travelers can visit a soccer "pitch" photo op, located post-security in Terminal 2, featuring giant soccer balls and a goal net which will also feature host staffed activities, including trivia raffle with miniature soccer balls for prizes and the opportunity for travelers to showcase their dribbling skills. Large-screen monitors will also be positioned in various locations for visitors to watch FIFA games live.
"As the international gateway to the San Francisco Bay Area, we are thrilled to welcome FIFA fans to SFO," said Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet. "With a host of festivities in our terminal, visitors from around the world can experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup throughout the month."
