Alexandria Fire Department is Awarded International Accredited Status

The Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) has been granted Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) Accredited Agency status through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). CFAI Accreditationis awarded to departments that meet performance indicator criteria in eleven separate categories, demonstrating adherence to rigorous public safety standards. AFD is one of more than 300 agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited agency status with the CFAI and CPSE.

"This achievement reflects our commitment to excellence in public safety and continuous improvement in the delivery of fire and emergency services in our city," said City Manager James Parajon.

CFAI accreditation ensures that AFD remains at the forefront of the fire service industry while maintaining the highest-level of service Alexandria community. It drives continuous improvements in AFD's capabilities and preparedness, reinforcing its commitment to excellence and safety.

Fire Chief Felipe Hernandez stated that the agency's achievement of Accredited Agency status "represents a clear and powerful validation of the professionalism, dedication, and commitment AFD members bring to our mission of serving the community by protecting lives, property, and the environment every day."

CFAI is dedicated to assisting the fire and emergency service agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self-assessment and accreditation to provide continuous quality improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to their communities. The CFAI process provides an agency with an improvement model to assess their service delivery and performance internally and then works with a team of peers from other agencies to verify and validate their completed self-assessment.
