TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - October is National Energy Awareness Month, and the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) is reminding Floridians that saving energy also means saving money. With Florida among the states with the highest overall energy consumption, it's more important than ever to be mindful of how we use energy. "Energy Awareness Month highlights the power of making smart energy choices," said FPSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. "When consumers take simple steps to conserve energy, they not only lower their monthly utility bills but also gain more control over their household costs." According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Florida is the nation's second-largest producer of electricity just behind Texas. The state's residential sector consumes a significant amount of this energy. In 2023, households accounted for 54% of Florida's electricity consumption-the largest residential share of any state. Much of this stems from heavy reliance on air conditioning and electric heating. The FPSC encourages Floridians to view Energy Awareness Month not just as a reminder for October, but as a year-round commitment to using energy wisely. Smart choices today lead to lower bills tomorrow and a more cost-effective, reliable energy future for all Floridians. For more information, visit https://www.floridapsc.com. |
