ICYMI: Scott Highlights Housing Affordability, Workforce Housing at Beaufort Ribbon Cutting

Beaufort, S.C. - Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, recently participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of Pointe Grand Beaufort, a new workforce housing development that will bring hundreds of affordable homes to the Beaufort community. During the event, Chairman Scott underscored the importance of housing affordability for working families and said the American Dream begins with having a safe, affordable place to call home.

On housing for working families:

"This is about housing for doers. People who work hard, show up every day, and deserve a place to live close to their jobs and their families."

Scott also spoke about growing up in a single-parent household and watching his mother work long hours as a nurse's aide, often spending hours commuting to and from work.

"My mom was a doer. She worked long shifts and then had a long drive home. Too often we forget the human cost of having to live so far away from work. When people can live closer, they get more rest, spend less on gas, and have more time with their families. That matters."

On why developments like Pointe Grand Beaufort matter:

"When we put serving the community first, good things happen. You can do good and do well at the same time."

Scott emphasized that housing affordability is one of the most pressing issues facing the country and said 2026 must be a turning point for working families.

"If we don't bring down prices and raise wages, we're missing a golden opportunity to say to working families, 'We see you. You matter. The American Dream should be yours.'"

On bipartisan efforts to lower housing costs, including his ROAD to Housing Act:

"This isn't a Republican issue or a Democrat issue. It's an American Dream issue. When we put politics aside and focus on the people, we can get things done."

Pointe Grand Beaufort will provide 328 new homes for working families in the Beaufort area, helping teachers, nurses, service workers, and other South Carolinians live near where they work and stay rooted in their community.
