City of St. Petersburg Hosting Public Input Meeting for San Martin Blvd Forcemain and Watermain Relocation Project

April 24, 2025 - The City of St. Petersburg is hosting a public input meeting Tuesday, April 29 at the Willis S. Johns Recreation Center to inform residents, answer questions, and receive public input about the upcoming San Martin Blvd Forcemain & Watermain Relocation Project. The City of St. Petersburg is relocating vital underground utilities near the San Martin Bridge to improve long-term reliability, strengthen storm resilience, and protect local waterways.

Public Input Meeting

Tuesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Willis S Johns Recreation Center
6635 Dr. Martin Luther King St. N

The City is installing a new 30-inch sanitary forcemain and new 16-inch water main underneath Riveria Bay using horizontal directional drill, a tunneling method commonly used to avoid water bodies and minimize impact above ground. The new pipelines replace a 24-inch sanitary force main and a 12-inch watermain currently attached to the San Martin Boulevard bridge.

Construction is expected to begin September 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by March 2026.

This relocation is required due to Pinellas County's upcoming replacement of the San Martin Bridge over Riviera Bay, which will improve clearance for boat traffic. Since the City's utilities are currently attached to the bridge, they must be relocated before construction begins.

This project will require temporary changes to traffic patterns on and around the San Martin Bridge. To complete the utility relocation safely and efficiently, traffic will be reduced to one lane across the bridge. Temporary traffic signals will be installed to alternate the flow of vehicles in both directions.

Residents are encouraged to attend the public meeting and provide input as they learn more about the project, the construction schedule, and how construction will impact the community. For more information, visit www.stpete.org/SanMartinPipelines.
