Governor Polis Mourns the Passing of Conservation Icon Jane Goodall

DENVER - Governor Polis mourned the passing of Jane Goodall with the following statement. Goodall dedicated her career to conservation and animal welfare, and opened the world's eyes to the incredible lives of chimpanzees.

"Dr. Jane Goodall broke barriers and inspired generations of girls to become scientists. Jane Goodall is an icon who spent her entire life learning more about the world around her and fighting to protect it. Jane brought all of us along on her quest to learn more about chimpanzees, animals of all kinds, and our environment. Dr. Goodall's advocacy has made a difference and inspired countless others to follow in her footsteps. I had the great privilege of visiting with Jane several times including while she was here in Colorado, and my heart goes out to her son and grandchildren, and all the humans and chimpanzees who knew and loved her. Our world has lost a truly great person. Jane will be greatly missed, and her legacy will live on and continue inspiring the next generation," said Governor Jared Polis.

In April 2025, Governor Polis proudly proclaimed Animals Matter Day in honor of Dr. Jane Goodall.
