NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 7, 2025) - The new school year began with a significant change for one New Brunswick elementary school, as students arrived for the first day of class at the newly-renamed Robert J. Boyler School.
The school, formerly known as Woodrow Wilson School, was renamed in a ceremony attended by school and city officials. The change honors Boyler, a longtime educator and administrator who dedicated 38 years to the New Brunswick School District.
Boyler, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 87, was a highly respected figure. He served as the principal of Woodrow Wilson School from 1986 until his retirement in 1998, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and staff.
The decision to rename the school came after a comprehensive process that included public input and a review of nominations from staff, families, students, alumni and residents.
The renaming reflects the community's desire to honor a figure who had a profound and positive influence on local education, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire future generations of students.
