CMS releases guidance on how to apply for Rural Health Transformation Program funding

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) released the following statement after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched the landmark $50 billion Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program, a key component of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.

"Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cut's historic investment in rural health care, North Dakotans will see better access, stronger quality, and improved care," Fedorchak said. "The Trump administration is serious about supporting rural health care, and I'm encouraged by CMS's swift rollout of the application. I encourage our providers to work together and make these dollars count for our citizens."

The $50 billion program funding will be allocated to approved states over a five-year time period, with $10 billion available annually starting FY26. The funding will be available through a one-time application process. The deadline for state applications is November 5, 2025. CMS is expected to announce awardees by December 31, 2025.

The funding allocation is as follows:

  • $25 billion over five years will be distributed evenly among states with an approved application.

  • $25 billion will be awarded to approved states with high rural health care needs and applications that reflect the greatest potential for and scale of impact on the health of rural communities.
