Union Pacific Railroad (UP) will be conducting trackwork on Decoto Road beginning Saturday, June 14 through Monday, June 16, 2025. During this period, Decoto Road will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic from the intersection of Decoto Road and Meyers Drive/Union Square to the intersection of Decoto Road and 11th Street. This closure is necessary to allow Union Pacific Railroad to replace the concrete panels at the at-grade crossing.
Residents will be able to use all roadways located north of the closure, such as those in the Decoto District and off 11th Street. However, traffic will not be able to go south from these streets due to the full closure at the railroad tracks near the BART overhead structure.
Neighboring shopping centers on Decoto Road up to Meyers Drive/Union Square will remain accessible from the south. However, customers are encouraged to use Alvarado-Niles Road to access these businesses.
What to Expect:
Motorists are highly encouraged to avoid this segment of Decoto Road and to instead take alternative routes to alleviate traffic congestion within the area. The City is aware that the closures will impact the public and measures are being taken to minimize inconvenience.
Detour Options (for Motorists along Mission Boulevard and Alvarado-Niles Road):
This work is a key component of the At-Grade Pedestrian Crossing at BART Project (BART East Entrance), which will open a second entrance into the BART Station. This UP work aims to improve safety and accessibility at the existing at-grade railroad crossing along the Oakland Subdivision rail line.
