JCDHE offers walk-in flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinic Oct. 23 in Mission

The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment will offer a walk-in flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinic Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Northeast Offices, 6000 Lamar Ave., Room 500, in Mission. The clinic will serve eligible individuals ages 6 months and older. No appointment is needed.

"Getting a flu shot each year can reduce your risk of serious illness and hospitalization as we head into the fall and winter months," said Charlie Hunt, JCDHE department director. "This clinic gives people who live in northern Johnson County a convenient option closer to home. You can walk in without an appointment and take an important step to protect your health."

An annual flu vaccine is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older, with rare exceptions. People at higher risk of serious flu complications include adults ages 65 and older; children younger than 5, especially those younger than 2; pregnant people; and people with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease or weakened immune systems. Older adults and people with underlying health conditions also face a higher risk of severe COVID-19.

COVID-19 vaccines are available to adults ages 65 and older and individuals ages 6 months to 64 years who have an underlying medical condition or a recommendation from a medical professional. Those younger than 65, or their parent or guardian, must sign an attestation confirming eligibility. Eligible individuals can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines during the same visit.

People attending the clinic should bring:

  • Their health insurance card or payment for vaccination.
  • A completed immunization consent form, if possible, to save time. Forms in English and Spanish are available online.

JCDHE accepts all KanCare plans, most private insurance plans, Medicare Part B and Medicare Part D. Medicare HMO plans are not accepted. People should check their health plan before attending the clinic to confirm coverage and any out-of-pocket costs. Cash, check and credit card payments are accepted.

The Olathe immunization clinic and tuberculosis testing services will be closed Oct. 23 so staff can provide vaccinations at this special event.
