Ben Franklin Bridge: Westbound Traffic Reduced to One Lane September 19-21

Milling and paving construction scheduled overnight; motorists advised to plan ahead.

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) will conduct milling and paving work on the Ben Franklin Bridge's westbound lanes during the weekend of September 19-21. To minimize traffic disruptions, the work is scheduled to take place overnight and into the morning hours, weather permitting. This project will repair deteriorated pavement areas, ensuring a smoother driving experience for motorists.

What to expect:

  • Scheduled Work, weather permitting:
    • Friday, 9/19 at 8 p.m. through Saturday, 9/20 at 12 p.m.:
      • 1 lane open westbound to Pennsylvania and 3 westbound lanes closed for construction.
      • 3 lanes open to New Jersey.
      • All lanes are expected to reopen by 12 p.m. Saturday, 9/20.
    • Saturday, 9/20 at 7 p.m. through Sunday, 9/21 at 8 a.m.:
      • 1 lane open westbound to Pennsylvania and 3 westbound lanes closed for construction.
      • 3 lanes open to New Jersey.
      • All lanes are expected to reopen by 8 a.m. Sunday, 9/21.
  • Bridge Motorists: Construction work zones will involve lane closures and reduced speed limits. During these times, only one westbound lane will be open to the public. Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time, check traffic conditions before traveling, and consider alternative routes such as the Walt Whitman or Betsy Ross Bridge.
  • Bridge Neighbors: Due to the nature of milling and paving work, neighbors may experience construction equipment noise and bright work lights during overnight and early morning hours. Efforts will be made to minimize these impacts.
