Nahida Sobhan, the new Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Sobhan had been serving as High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Canada since 2024. She has experience in Geneva, having served as Counsellor (2010-2013) then as Minister (2013-2017) in the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Ms. Sobhan has served in various high-level positions in the Bangladeshi foreign service, including Ambassador to Jordan (2020-2024) and Director-General within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017-2020), and held positions in the State's Permanent Missions in Kolkata and Rome.
Ms. Sobhan obtained both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in English literature from the University of Dhaka in 1992 and 1994, respectively. Other than her native Bengali, she speaks English fluently and has proficiency in French. Born in Chittagong, Bangladesh on 20 February 1968, she is married and has two children.
