As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the UMass Amherst Latina Professors' Mutual Mentoring Group will host its first symposium, "Navigating Academia as Latina Professors," Friday, Oct. 31, from 9:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Marriott Center on the 11th floor of the Campus Center.

Latina faculty members of all ranks (both tenure-track and non-tenure-track), librarians and doctoral students are invited to this professional development opportunity, which will provide the chance to cultivate networks, build community, and learn different strategies from experts in the field about how to survive and thrive in academia. All faculty members and librarians are also welcome to attend this and all groups and spaces on campus.

Three featured speakers - Nilanjana Dasgupta, UMass Amherst professor of psychological and brain sciences, Irene Mata, professor of American studies at Wellesley College, and Valerie Young, co-founder of The Impostor Syndrome Institute - will present their recent work and attendees will have the opportunity to interact with them during lunch and a panel discussion.

Lunch, as well as Halloween and El Dia de los Muertos treats, will be provided, and registration is requested by Oct. 15.

More information on this event, which has been made possible due to a Mutual Mentoring Grant from the UMass Amherst Office of Faculty Development (OFD), can be found on the OFD website.
